The Pokémon Company unveiled collectors to the Pokémon TCG Diamond and Pearl set during 2007, showcasing the Bonsly illustration. On this artwork, the fourth generation stone creature appears by artist Harada-san in a, shall we say, compromising situation. On the card, Bonsly, which evolves into Sudowoodo can be seen fallen and weeping. However, don't mistake this, though. As its move the move Fake Tears, the little creature aims to influence their opponent's emotions in the hopes of lowering their offensive power. Memorable card, right? Harp player Hopkins is a firm believer. She owns an album with 305 cards of Bonsly to prove it.

Her Complete Set Including Rare Finds

But that isn't everything she has either. She's got 20 holo reverse editions of this particular card, showing the small Pokémon with shiny foil everywhere but the central artwork. The crown jewel, yet, turns out to be the PSA 6-rated reverse holographic Bonsly edition. Certainly, it's far from a high-grade original Charizard card. However, can you claim an amusing, close to mint card of Bonsly maintained in its eternal glory? Probably not.

How It All Began

Hopkins has spent much of 2025 accumulating every 2007 Bonsly card that she could locate. She initially learned about the out-of-print card in recent months, during a discussion the most infamous cards in the Pokémon TCG with a worker at a local shop. Omanyte in tears was considered, along with Cubone by itself in an amusement park. But it was Bonsly crying, or card number 17, that grabbed Hopkins's attention.

Behind Bonsly's Look

Bonsly is obviously influenced from miniature trees, which are often grown in pots with holes at the bottom. They are designed to aid growth, so much so that fans advise one another to add holes into their pots when none are present. Bonsai can also be placed on low dishes hole-free, referred to as suiban, and the retained water can help enthusiasts arrange their bonsai to mimic natural landscapes. Bonsly is the former, hence the hole.

A Memorable and Notorious Card

Despite this logical explanation, though, The company seems almost a little too concerned with Bonsly's hole. Also, products like Bonsly plushes ensure they feature a cavity on the underside of Bonsly. It doesn't matter whether the portrayal of Bonsly in question is crying or at ease: It will display the hole. The opening is an intrinsic part of Bonsly's design. Card number 71 turned into an internet joke within the community because of the famous hole, as well as its unique position. Up until last year, the card was the only version of Bonsly card included in the series in which most Pokémon are commonly shown in multiple editions. The majority of these are priced at one to three dollars, she mentions, estimating that she's spent approximately four hundred dollars for the collection book.

Market Trends and Value

These days, excellent this Bonsly card can cost up to around fifteen dollars. While that is a premium price, run-of-the-mill versions usually go for $4 and above. This rise in cost corresponds to when Hopkins started collecting seriously, but it's possible that various influences. Even though Bonsly #71 is well-known with enthusiasts, Emily's social media updates regarding the card have received a huge audience. As awareness of its existence expands further to a wider audience, it's possible that their market price may continue to shoot up. Regardless, investors say that TCG prices are climbing currently across the board.

"The amazing thing remains that certain fans and enthusiasts of the YouTube channel have sent their Bonsly cards her way for her album, and I am keeping these Bonsly safe forever," Emily states. Rather than recoil in horror, the audience are impressed and inspired by her Bonsly binder.
